Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. A few years later, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She became chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms as well as arms control. She traveled together with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss matters such as that of the Iran Contra controversy.
